HISTORY

Simon and his fraternal twin brother, Sean, were born as the result of a one-night stand between a barmaid and a travelling merchant. While their father’s identity was always known, he was never really a part of their lives, though he would occasional stop by their home with various little gifts, and in order to renew his acquaintance with their mother.

Simon and Sean grew up in their mother’s hometown of Drasna in Kanemoria, a small coastal town that is one of the ports for the ferry from Dentoria. Their childhood was fairly unremarkable by Kanemorian standards: they had a basic education, listened to the tales of the travellers who came by the town, and became adept at stealing things. Sean however, unlike his brother, was always quite restless and whenever their father visited, Sean would ask to get to go with him. When the twins were 16, their father relented and Sean left home. Simon rarely sees his brother now, who only visits a few times a year.

Simon however never had the same wanderlust that his brother did and was quite happy to stay in Drasna and make a life for himself there. His maternal uncle ran the local apothecary and Simon started learning from him how to make the various remedies that were made. As he got older, he also learned of the apothecary’s night business: the selling of drugs and poisons. When Simon was 20, his uncle suddenly and unexpectedly died and Simon took over the shop.

Dealing in death on a regular basis has many different effects on people. Simon’s uncle had become quite paranoid, always fearing his own assassination. For Simon however, it produced quite a different reaction: he learned to face death down by learning to endure pain, through various methods including getting a fair number of tattoos (always a rather dangerous activity), and by developing immunities to most poisons, and being able to identify and quickly neutralize any others, at least of those which he sells in his shop. Even when he has become immune to a poison, he never carries anything in the store that he does not have an antidote too, though he does not publicize this fact.

At age 23 Simon has become well known in Drasna for his shop, both the more respectable day operations and the shady dealings. Travellers often come to Drasna for the express purpose of buying from him, especially after he has “developed” something new. He also has a decently-sized loyal customer-base, who often tease him for his one soft spot: his mother, whom he lives with and takes care of as she has developed a lung ailment, which he has so far been unable to cure. Simon spends most of the money he does not need to run the shop on his mother, buying her dresses and anything else she desires. He does however keep some money for himself, usually spent either on his ever growing collection of daggers and tattoos, or on the occasional prostitute (who always get supplied with free herbs to prevent pregnancy).

PERSONALITY

Simon is a rather out-going and friendly man, which has led to him being quite popular in Drasna. When the shop is closed, he can often be seen out on the town, having a good time, especially with women who enjoy both his money and his various skills. Simon has many friends, but very few whom he would call close to him. Still, he is quite well liked, both for who he is, and for the important business he supplies.

Simon is a very good businessman, always making sure to maximize his profit and always looking for new concoctions to sell. Granted, some of the potions he sells might not actually be anything more than coloured water, but this is Kanemoria and people expect a bit of shadiness in business, or else they get suspicious.

Despite his popularity with women, especially the local prostitutes, Simon doesn’t have much interest in having a settling down at this moment. He has a vague interest in having a family one day and thinks it would be interesting to have children (and he might already, though he does not know of any bastards potentially fathered by him). Right now however, his concern is elsewhere, with his mother and with his business and with just enjoying his life.

Finally, Simon is somewhat of a masochist. He gets a thrill from the pain caused by his tattoos, as well as from the danger of purposely taking poisons. He also has tried out some more interesting sexual practices, but only with prostitutes he knows will keep their mouths shut about it.

APPEARANCE

The first thing anyone notices about Simon is the tattoo under his left eye, one of the riskiest things he has ever had done to himself. As any prostitute could tell you, he has tattoos in other places. Physically, Simon is of average height and has a wiry frame. He wears his blond hair spiked up, using one of his more popular creations, and has brown eyes. Since he spends most of his day inside, his skin is fairly pale. Simon enjoys wearing clothing that shows off his tattoos, while still not crossing the line of decency when it comes to foreigners, who provide a decent amount of his costumer-base, as Drasna is on the ferry route.
